Personal Learning Networks (PLNs) are informal digital platforms that allow individuals to develop personally and professionally and for the purpose of individualized learning (Haas et al., 2020). Different people have different repertoires of PLNs to suit their personal needs, desires, and purposes, but the common thread is that all of them offer learning experiences, and sometimes we are contributors to the learning experiences.
There are many benefits to PLNs. PLNs provide digital platforms, at one’s fingertips, to learn and obtain information on just about any subject, whether out of interest or curiosity. They are rich sources for staying current with news, interests, places, and people. PLNs foster connections. They are convenient for seeking help, guidance, and solutions. They are platforms people visit as a means to escape or for amusement, which often results in an indirect or informal learning experience. PLNs are places to buy and sell items, and much more. Despite the purpose of each personal learning network, there is knowledge to be gained to benefit anyone and everyone.
